Three tasks of the Architecture Design Office

In April 2024, I was transferred to the Architecture Design Office, taking over some of the responsibilities of my previous department, the Systems Management Department, and was promoted to general manager at the same time.

The Architecture Design Office has three main tasks. The first is to "support upstream consideration of various projects, including Dai-ichi Life", followed by "promoting the use of cloud computing at Dai-ichi Life" and "promoting enterprise architecture (EA) to optimize corporate operations and information systems for the future".

We are contracted by Dai-ichi Life Insurance and Dai-ichi Life Holdings to carry out EA work. Rather than optimizing individual systems, the mission of the Architecture Design Office is to "link the future vision of Dai-ichi Life and the entire Dai-ichi Life Group's business with IT and optimize it".

For about 20 years since joining the company, I have been involved in the maintenance, operation, and development of open systems. In 2021, I was transferred to the System Management Department, which was the first time I experienced a departmental transfer. My experience working on infrastructure-related tasks, which are the foundation of systems, for many years has been useful in various ways in my current work, which promotes optimization and transformation of the entire organization.

The importance of complementing each other's strengths and areas for growth

The core of my daily work is various meetings and consultations with colleagues in the same department, people from other departments at DLTX, and customers. Twice a week, within the department, we set aside two-hour "discussion time slots" to share information and discuss the cases that each member is in charge of or has been consulted on. I think it is important to receive opinions and advices from those around me so that the person in charge does not end up shouldering the issues alone. The opinions of other staff members are stimulating in moving forward with projects, and I also learn about perspectives and ways of thinking that are different from my own.

The Architecture Design Office is a small team with seven main staff and 10 people with multiple roles, but the areas of responsibility are wide-ranging. Naturally, there are many tasks that cannot be handled within our team alone. Through study sessions and information sharing across the entire DX Planning Department, we work with each department within DLTX while placing emphasis on horizontal connections to promote DX.

Learning things, you have never experienced before is essential for DX projects. It is important for employees to complement each other's shortcomings and work as an organization.

Achieving work-life balance through the understanding and cooperation of those around me

I sometimes act as a recruitment interviewer, and female students often ask me about systems that support marriage, childbirth, and childcare. I myself am currently raising a child, and the experience of childbirth and childcare has reminded me of the importance of achieving a work-life balance without placing a heavy burden on myself.

DLTX has various systems that support the balance between work and childcare, and an atmosphere within the company that makes it easy to use them. I think the most important thing in balancing work and childcare is to have a workplace where the people around you understand the importance of work-life balance. The spread of remote work has also made it possible to work from home, which is a great benefit for employees who are raising children.

"I want to work for a long time at a company that fits me well and continue to acquire skills", was the vision I had as a working adult when I was a student. After job hunting, I felt that DLTX, which places importance on improving the skills of each employee, was the right company for me, and that's why I joined the company. Three years ago, my responsibilities changed and the number of new things I had to learn increased dramatically, but even then, I realized that I still had room to grow and could grow even more. I believe that DLTX is the company I expected to be in, since I was a student.
