Challenges experts take on in their fields of expertise

Yawata It's the first time talking with you, Takai-san, right? I heard that you built your career as a cybersecurity specialist before joining DLTX.

Takai That's right. I used to work in the monitoring department of a security vendor. Using that knowledge, I am currently building and operating "CRIST", which handles cybersecurity responses for the Dai-ichi Life Group. If any kind of infringement is reported, I am also in charge of determining the incident.

Yawata It goes without saying that cybersecurity is important when handling personal information of insurance policyholders. I believe that you are highly trusted as you are well versed in this field. As a testament to this, you have been certified as an expert in the area of cybersecurity.

Takai It's humbling. However, I feel like I'm still in the process of understanding the Dai-ichi Life Group, and there's still a lot I don't know. I've heard that the Digital Promotion Department to which Yawata-san belong is a very innovative department that is accelerating the evolution of the entire group.

Yawata Every day, I conduct research and proof of concept (PoC) to find out how to utilize the latest technologies such as AI and blockchain in the Dai-ichi Life Group's business. It is our role not only to validate business perspectives, but also to look at things from a higher perspective and evaluate promising technologies. I am particularly focused on the use of AI. I have been certified as an expert in the field of digital architecture, and I believe this is in recognition of my approach to and achievements in using AI.

A title is not a goal, but a starting point for further growth

Yawata Of course, it depends on the individual, but the tendency is that the more you advance in your career, the more you will be focused on management work rather than on-site development work. However, for those who want to build up a track record as an engineer, this expert certification may provide new possibilities for your career path.

Takai This seems like a very meaningful certification for people who are determined to master their path as an engineer. Expert certification involves an external examination, but the examination body is also made up of highly skilled experts, so I was able to get an objective evaluation of my current level as an engineer. To be honest, this gives me confidence.

Yawata A big advantage is that we can guarantee the reliability of our customers as experts in the cybersecurity field for you and the digital architecture field for me. However, I don't think that gaining the title of expert is the goal, but rather it's just the beginning. Expectations from both inside and outside the company also increase with it.

Takai I want to do my best to live up to those expectations. Cyber attacks are evolving at an incredible speed, so much so that the latest knowledge and technology become outdated in just a year. If I rest on my laurels, I'll be left behind in no time.

Yawata Being an expert requires self-improvement. And I want to be an engineer who is proactive and want to share the skills and knowledge I have honed with those around me.

Bringing together the expertise of each individual to pave the way for DLTX's future

Yawata Even so, professionals like Takai-san who have highly specialized skills and are also well aware of the outside world are valuable. From an objective point of view, how do you evaluate the environment at DLTX?

Takai The biggest feature I felt was that psychological safety was ensured. It's easy to work with superiors and colleagues, and you get plenty of feedback and support. Even if a problem occurs, there is a manager who gives you accurate instructions, so you feel protected. However, perhaps because there are many employees with gentle personalities, there are times in meetings where I wish there were more lively discussions.

Yawata The environment is not provided by the company but is something we create ourselves - we need to foster such an organizational culture. However, I believe that this is not difficult, and can be achieved if we always look forward, have the attitude and ability to improve.

Takai An excellent organization may be one in which each member has cutting-edge technical skills but is united as a team. I would like to contribute to improving the skills of my team members and evolving the organizational culture.

Yawata This is very encouraging. Let's work together to make DLTX a company that is respected both inside and outside the Dai-ichi Life Group.
