What is the mission of the DX Project Promotion Department?

Sano The DX Project Promotion Department handles everything from new business planning to system construction. We utilize the latest technology to evolve our customers' businesses and systems. Through this evolution, our department's mission is to "foster a spirit of challenge within DLTX".

A section that brings together experts from various fields and technologies

Sano When asked "What are the characteristics of our department?" we answer "We are a group of professionals with different areas of expertise". Our department is requested to handle difficult projects that cannot be managed with the skills of each development department alone. Even if each department cannot handle it alone, we believe that "DLTX can do it" if we bring together the talent of the entire company. We assess the characteristics of the project and identify the necessary skills. We then recruit people with those skills from across the company to form a project team. What are your impressions of our department members?

Oyama I was assigned to the DX Project Promotion Department at the start of the project I am currently working on. Previously, I was in a department where I had few opportunities to interact with employees from other departments, so when I was assigned to this department, the first thing I thought was, "There are a lot of well-known people in the company that I know". When I actually started talking to my colleagues in the department, I felt that there were many people who were positive about their work and could be trusted, and I immediately felt that this was an organization created to achieve the project.

Shimada The DX Project Promotion Department is a "project-based organization" that brings together experts from each department. Therefore, I feel that many people have their own unique perspectives and strengths in different areas, such as business domains and development phases. I think it is an environment where opinions can be easily expressed and spoken up, even when starting a new initiative where there are no ready answers.

System development for both individual insurance and group insurance is carried out in the same department

Sano Previously, at DLTX, separate departments were in charge of the "individual insurance and group insurance" and "applications and infrastructure" fields. As a result, there were not many opportunities for information sharing between departments. However, in our department, Shimada-san is developing individual insurance and Koyama-san is developing group insurance, and information sharing within the department is progressing. Could you please give us an overview of the projects you two are working on, including some concrete examples?

Shimada I am involved in a development project to integrate customer information. This is a multi-vendor project being developed together with consulting firms and IT vendors. In order to gain technical skills and understand the internal structure of the system, four young people from my department are participating in each company's project team and working together on the development. We are currently in the latter half of the project, and are testing the screen side, such as API and UI. In the first half of the project, I worked as a PMO. Working as a PMO in a multi-vendor development project was a valuable experience for me, as it allowed me to see the entire project from a different angle than usual.

Oyama For the past few years, I have been working on multiple projects to develop and upgrade the customer portal for group insurance. I was a member of the new development project team, but for various reasons, things did not go as planned. The next upgrade project also did not produce the results we had planned. Since we had failed twice in a row, I would normally think there would be no next time, but what I am currently working on is my third attempt at developing this system.

Sano One of the values at DLTX is that "DLTX provides a place for employees who want to take on challenges to thrive". The fact that we appear on this recruitment page is proof of this. Like Koyama-san, I have struggled with projects many times and received support from the entire company. And yet, I am still here today (laughs). "DLTX provides an environment where employees who want to take on challenges can take on challenges again and again". This is the distinctive feature of DLTX and its true appeal.

We are looking for proactive people who say, "I want to do that job!"

Sano The people we want to join our department in the future are those who say, "I want to do that job". Not having the skills at the moment is not a big problem. New employees are also welcome. Two new employees have joined our department this year. Two career hires who joined the company six months ago have also joined us. On the other hand, there are some people who do not fit in well with our department-those who make things easy only for themselves. In our department, we believe that "making things easier for the team leads to making things easier for yourself". We use our own time to create tools that improve the work efficiency of the team, which leads to reducing the work time of the entire team, and as a result, it makes things easier for us as well. Many of our colleagues share these values. What kind of employees do you two want to work with?

Oyama I want to work with people who can communicate well! We mostly work in teams, so it's good to have someone who can move forward while cooperating with the people around them. As for skills, I joined the company with zero skills, even though I graduated from a liberal arts university. However, I was able to learn the basics thoroughly during the new employee training, and after the training, I was able to work as a beginner in the field of software engineering. Some people may be interested in IT-related work but are worried about their skills, so please rest assured about it.

Shimada The kind of person I want to work with is someone who has a strong sense of self and is open-minded enough to listen to others. Last year, when I was in charge of training new employees, my junior was just that kind of person, and it was very easy to talk to him. People who have sense of self and are open-minded are good at incorporating new knowledge and ideas, sometimes by asking questions to those around them, so I think they will grow personally and have a positive influence on those around them.

Beyond DX Initiatives

Sano When working on a DX project, you will be confronted with "unknown tasks" and "unknown technologies". You will also face challenges that are difficult to overcome. Even challenges that are difficult to solve alone can be resolved by combining "your own strengths" with the "strengths of your colleagues". The experience of solving problems will increase your self-efficacy, making you believe "I can do it", and will help you grow into a talent that can take on the next challenge. Our department hopes to produce more talent that takes on challenges and contribute to the business of the Dai-ichi Life Group and our external customers.
